
Walter Lopez
MSW Student
Walter is completing his Master of Social Work at the University of Toronto in the children and their families stream. Walter also completed his Bachelor of Social Work at Trent University. Further, Walter obtained a Social Service Worker Diploma from Durham College.
Upon completion of his BSW, Walter worked in employment counselling, assisting service users to find and retain employment. Walter also has experience working with at risk youth. As part of his BSW placement, Walter worked service users who have been infected and affected by HIV, and with pre-school age children.
In his practice, Walter adopts a trauma informed lens, family systems theory, strengths-based perspective, and mindfulness. Through his volunteer experience, Walter had assisted youth and adults during the pandemic in suicide hotlines over the phone and through texting.
In his free time, Walter enjoys staying active by doing activities such as soccer, hiking, travelling, running, going to the gym, doing calisthenics, reading, learning new languages, cooking, and doing yoga. Walter also loves spending time with friends and family.
