Ruth Varghese

BSW Student

Ruth is a student social worker who is completing her field practicum at Dr. Angela Fountain and Associates. She is currently in her fourth year of the Bachelor of Social Work program with a minor in Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Ruth is eager to work collaboratively with children and their families at Fountain and Associates as they navigate various mental health conditions and life circumstances. At the practice, Ruth previously assisted with the After-School Group (ASG) and currently assists with the Ponytails group and the STARS parenting group.

In her previous field practicum, Ruth worked with youth in transitional housing. While there, she provided life skills training and informal counselling to prepare these youth for independent living. In this role, Ruth supported clients with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). Moreover, Ruth has experience working with children and adolescents through her roles as a summer camp counsellor and English tutor.

In her work, Ruth uses modalities of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Play Therapy, and Animal-Assisted Psychotherapy (AAP). She also incorporates principles of a strengths-based approach and an ecological systems approach.

Beyond her work and education, Ruth enjoys spending time with her family and friends, listening to music, going to the gym, and building Lego sets
