Frequently Asked Questions
General
Do I need a doctor's referral to access your services? We do not need a doctor's referral for clients to access our services; however, please keep in mind that your insurance company may require a doctor's referral for our services to be covered under your insurance plan. We recommend checking with your insurance company with regards to what they require before beginning services with us.
What are your rates? Our fees and rates are consistent with guidelines outlined by the Ontario Psychological Association, the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario, and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Further, our fees vary depending on which service is being provided as well as the clinician providing the service. Our services are not covered by OHIP; however, all clinicians at Dr. Fountain & Associates are registered Clinical Psychologists, registered Social Workers, registered Psychotherapists, or supervised by a registered clinician, so most extended insurance plans will reimburse all or part of the fees. Following each visit, you will receive an invoice outlining the services rendered.
Do you direct bill to insurance providers? We currently do not direct bill on behalf of clients. That being said, we make sure to provide families with all of the information their independent providers may require when making claims.
What ages are your services for? Dr. Fountain & Associates offers treatment and assessment services for children ages 3 and up, adolescents, and adults.
How long does it take to get an appointment? Our intake process typically takes about 2-4 weeks depending on your unique situation and what services you are looking for.
Treatment Services
Do I need a diagnosis to access therapy services? No, clients are not required to have a diagnosis or past assessment in order to access our treatment services.
My child is seeing a therapist with you. Can I see one too? Absolutely! We have clinicians that can see adults for therapy. We would ask you to complete an adult intake form to start the process for yourself.
What can I expect at my first session? In your first session, called an Initial Consultation, your clinician will spend some time getting to know you and/or your child and the issues that brought you to therapy. The clinician may ask questions about your/your child's presenting concerns, history and background. At the end of the session, your clinician will provide recommendations about how to best move forward. If you choose to pursue individual therapy, the clinician will help set up ongoing appointments for you/your child with an individual therapist.
Do you have after-school appointments available? Our clinicians offer both daytime and after-school appointments. However, please note that our after-school and weekend hours are in high demand and cannot be guaranteed.
Can I request a specific therapist? If you have received a referral or recommendation for one of our clinicians, please let us know on your intake form. However, please note that based upon availability and competency, we cannot guarantee that this specific person will be available for you or your child to see.
Assessments
How do I know what type of assessment I need? During your initial consultation, you will discuss your concerns and presenting problems with the clinician you meet with. Based on this information, our clinician will provide a recommendation about how to best move forward with the assessment process, and what type of assessment package is warranted.
How long does the assessment process take? The length of the assessment process depends on a number of factors, however, we aim to complete assessments within about 6-8 weeks.
Will I get a report at the end of the process? Yes! All of our offered assessment packages include a comprehensive report for you to keep. A report is helpful for you to pass along important information about the assessment process, results and recommendations to outside professionals and/or agencies.
Will my insurance company cover the cost of an assessment? Assessment services are often covered under Psychological Services through most extended health benefit packages. We recommend checking with your insurance company to confirm what they will reimburse you for.
